The Festival de Cannes upholds the silver screen. Therefore, in addition to taking place at the Palais des festivals, the opening ceremony and film will be screened in hundreds of French movie theaters, in front of thousands of film lovers. Initiated by the Festival de Cannes alongside France Télévision, the Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français and the CNC, this initiative also enjoys the friendly support of the AFCAE.

All participating cinemas will broadcast live the ceremony, presented by French actor Laurent Lafitte and marked by the presence of an exceptional guest of honor, American actor Robert de Niro, followed by the opening film, Partir un jour (Leave One Day), Amélie Bonnin‘s feature directorial debut.

This year, 382 cinemas in 90 French departments will participate and this operation will resonate in all kinds of cinemas whether chain, independent, art house or local cinemas.

Intended to share the opening evening of this great cinema celebration with a wide audience of moviegoers, this event is an opportunity to reaffirm the value of cinemas and the power of the collective experience.

The Festival de Cannes would like to thank the cinema owners for their invaluable investment in making it possible for film enthusiasts throughout France to experience this exceptional evening in their cinemas!
