What a fantastic ride. Straight into the action! I admit that I don’t enjoy forty minutes of build up in an action movie as happens in so many of the super hero films (not counting Iron Man as that was excellent) If a super hero story is done properly, as it is here, we still get the fleshed out characters and enough of what has gone before to enjoy a non stop rollercoaster ride of action, adventure, romance and cute dog.

A film which the whole family can enjoy. Excellent performances and a new Superman is born. Much has been said that there are too many main characters on screen. Many of whom have their own upcoming films or series, but I could only see one hero, one heroin, one bad guy and one dog. Everyone else was supporting them in the best way possible. No one else had that much screen time, though I am looking forward to seeing more of Mister Terrific and a ‘Deadpoolish’ Green Lantern.

Nicholas Hoult put in a stunning performance as Lex Luther, and to think he auditioned for Superman. I never quite got the Lex Luther character before but this time it hit home. David Corenswet is the new Superman, hopefully for many films to come. As for the dog, I loved him, I didn’t think he was in it enough whereas my sixteen year old was not so impressed with the fluffy canine.

Lois Lane is a difficult part to portray and doesn’t really have enough of her own story to shine in this but Rachel Brosnahan made the most of every line. Supergirl was nicely set up and yes, it looks like the dog will play a part in it.

James Gunn is a big dog fan and his affection for canines is obvious in this movie, as it was in Guardians of the Galaxy. He has put together a high octane family film that should crack a billion dollars at the box office with second viewing people like myself and spawn at least two sequals.
